Too narrow a focus on eating disorders
IN focusing solely on restrictive food intake disorders and binge/ vomit cycles, the article (in Family Health, August 25) was disappointing; it totally ignored chronic conditions of compulsive eating – not binge eating, but longterm and compulsive overeating driven by mental health issues and causing obesity, increased risk of cancer, diabetes and other conditions.
Compulsive overeating disorders are common, but largely neglected by the NHS and organisations involved in eating disorders, but the harm they do to sufferers can be just as serious as they are for the restrictive food intake disorders.
