Family and friends mourn dad of five and NHS worker Rowan who had ‘fantastic sense of humour’ and ‘would brighten up any day’
SURGEON FOUGHT TO SAVE HIS LIFE AFTER CRASH
THE family, friends and colleagues of an NHS worker and father of five have paid tribute to him after he died following a crash.
The incident happened at 1.16pm on Friday, August 13, in Nottingham Road in Stapleford.
Rowan Bailey, 40, from Sandiacre, had been working at the Queen’s Medical Centre as an A&E worker for seven years.
He leaves behind partner Sophie Chester as well as his five children, including youngest son Oscar, who is 10 months old.
Friends and colleagues of Mr Bailey posted their tributes to him online, recalling his “infectious smile and sense of humour”.
Sophie said: “He was very wellloved at work. He had such a fantastic sense of humour.
“Lots of his work colleagues and friends put tributes on social media, which was nice. They said he would brighten up any day and that sometimes they would leave work after a bad day feeling on top of the world after talking to him.”
Sophie explained how a “top surgeon” was brought in to try to save Mr Bailey’s life, and staff quickly realised they were dealing with “one of their own”.
But he sadly died of his injuries on Wednesday, August 18.
Sophie and Rowan had been together eight years and she says she will remember him as a lovely man who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family.
Sophie said “He was a big family man. He loved spending time with his family. And he was a bit of a geek – he liked collecting comic books. I honestly struggle to find the words to describe him. He was such a lovely person. He would do anything for anybody.”
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Sergeant Mark Baker, of Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “This was a tragic incident in which a man lost his life far too soon. His family are now being supported by specially trained officers and they have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
“As with all road traffic collisions where people are killed or seriously injured, we are working hard to understand exactly what happened and a full investigation will be undertaken. If you witnessed this incident or were travelling along the road immediately before the collision please contact 101 quoting incident 366 of 13 August 2021. We are particularly keen to hear from you if you have any dashcam footage of this incident.”
