Transformation of old council offices begins

-

THE transformation of the former home of North East Derbyshire Council has started with the aim of offering 59 apartments when work is finished.

Homes by Holmes applied for permission to create the properties back in May 2021 with planners approving them two months later.

The 59 apartments will be split over four floors of the building in Saltergate Chesterfield town hall.

The huge, red-brick building has sat empty for the past six years since North East Derbyshire Council moved out, with only the pay and display car park at the side of the building being used on a daily basis.

Prior to work starting, it had become somewhat of an eyesore property with weeds and grass becoming overgrown in the garden which surrounded the front of the building.

Under the plans the apartments will be a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments with 16 on the ground floor, 17 on the first floor, 14 on the second floor and 11 on the top floor. The car park which occupies part of the site is going to be retained and will offer 78 spaces for the 59 flats.

Homes by Holmes says it expects the first residents to move into their new apartments in 2022.
