School fitness tests are too skewed towards boys and are making girls hate PE, a study has found.

Running, sit-ups and press-ups might be outdated ways to assess pupils, researchers discovered.

Incorporating music, self-assessment and all-female classes may be the way to help schoolgirls curb inactivity instead. Dr Masato Kawabata, of Nanyang Technological University, in Singapore, said it was paramount PE teachers made testing fun, “especially for the secondary females who were least motivated”.
