Alfreton all but up after huge victory

-

ALFRETON need only two points to secure promotion from Division One after another mighty display with the bat sent Clifton to the bottom of the table.

They can only be caught if they lose their last two games without taking a point after piling up 350-4 to win by 150 runs.

Tom New made 111 opening the innings but the most spectacular hitting came at the end when Muhammad Asim flogged Clifton’s bowlers for 78 not out from 25 balls, with nine sixes and three fours. Clifton were bowled out for 200. Alrewas are in pole position to take the second promotion place after a three-wicket win over Morton Colliery.

Morton ground their way to 151 all out with Billy Hodgkinson, Sam Van Daesdonk and William Smedley taking three wickets each.

Alrewas did not have it all their own way in reply, as captain James Burton went for a second-ball duck and they slipped to 29-3 but Gareth Woolley anchored them with 55 not out from 87 balls, Stephen Cole added 32 and they reached their target in 29.4 overs.

Duffield lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with a 24-run

win which dented Rolleston’s promotion hopes.

David Whiteley and Tim Williscroft hit half-centuries in a solid 236-6 which proved beyond Rolleston as Ben Blenkinsop took 4-51 and Joe Wozniczka-Wells 3-43 in a reply of 212-9.

Dunstall also eased relegation fears by thrashing Lullington Park, piling up 268-6 with 83 from Matthew Arnold and 87 from Jamie Benstead, who put on 163 for the first wicket.

Lullington’s reply was a sorry 98 all out in which Oliver Roberts took 4-9. Reeve Evitts, Dan Featherstone and Tom Bunting took two each.
