All square on second weekend in the MRA

THERE were only two games on the second weekend of the Midlands Regional Alliance season and both ended in draws, writes Craig Gibbons.

The sole fixture in Drayton PACS Division One saw Sherwin held to a 1-1 stalemate at home to Aston Village. Herbert Muhwezi was on target for the hosts.

In Drayton PACS Division Two, Bakewell Town Developmen­t shared the spoils with Newhall United Reserves in another 1-1 draw.

Jonathan Hutchinson netted for Bakewell and Kyle Clamp for Newhall.

There were more games on the opening weekend of the MRA season, with 24 goals spread across six fixtures.

FC Sunnyhill are the early pacesetter­s in the Mel Williams Premier Division after they ran out 4-2 winners over Sleetmoor United thanks to goals from Jonathan Baka, Tom Sheffield, Ben Titterton and Kay Anderson.

Michael Chapman and Oliver Hill got the goals for Sleetmoor.

Wirksworth Ivanhoe Reserves top the early Division One table after they recorded a comfortabl­e 3-0 victory away at Sherwin.

Oliver Rodgers, Declan KidgerPres­ton and James McDonald were on target for Ivanhoe.

In the other Division One fixture, goals from Matthew King and Josh Manning helped Willington Sports edge out Melbourne Dynamo Reserves 2-1. Jack Scothern netted for Dynamo.

In Division Two, Newhall United Reserves opened the campaign with a narrow 3-2 victory over hosts Pinxton United, courtesy of a Dylan Burke double and one from Brandon Edwards.

Pinxton’s goals came from Fallon Tatham and Cameron Gascoyne.

Bakewell Town Developmen­t also started the 2021-22 season with victory, with Luke Roper and an own-goal helping them to a 2-1 home win over Castle Donington Reserves.

Alex Davies replied for Donington.

Elsewhere, Holbrook St Michaels Developmen­t and Markeaton shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Tyler Milbourne and Tommy Thompson were on target for the hosts, Harvey Bradford and Ryan Maginnis for Markeaton.
