More than 500 new county Covid cases

THERE has been one more coronaviru­s-related death recorded in Derbyshire.

The death was recorded in Chesterfie­ld Hospital and occurred within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.

More than 515 new Covid-19 cases have also been recorded across Derbyshire in the latest figures, bringing the number of cases in the county since that start of the pandemic to 97,094.

There were 126 in Derby and 392 in the wider Derbyshire area.

Outside of Derby, Erewash saw the biggest number of new cases, with 91, followed by Amber Valley with 74. The smallest rise in the figures released yesterday was in Derbyshire Dales, with 24.

Nationwide, a further 207 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 132,742.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 157,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.

As of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 35,693 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said. The figures come following a bank holiday weekend when there is usually a lag in reporting deaths and cases.

Government data up to August 31 shows that of the 90,994,627 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,086,605 were first doses, a rise of 38,596 on the previous day.
