City council apologises after brown bins on 70 streets go unemptied
DERBY City Council has been unable to complete brown bin collections on dozens of city streets.
The local authority has listed more than 70 streets where homeowners did not see their brown bins emptied on Tuesday.
Residents whose bins have been missed should leave their bins presented for collection. City council
The collections were not completed as planned due to issues concerning “staffing levels” among the city council’s refuse team, which has led to additional drivers being drafted in from other council services.
A spokesperson for Derby City Council said: “The council is working hard to minimise the effects on residents and would like to apologise for any inconvenience or disruption.
“Where possible, additional drivers are being drafted in from other council
services to ensure as many collections as possible can go ahead as scheduled.
“Currently, missed bin and brown bin collections are being affected.
“Residents whose bins have been missed should leave their bins presented
for collection and we will attempt to return as soon as possible for these. Any additional recycling waste can be presented alongside blue bins as long as it is suitably boxed or bagged (in clear plastic bags).”
In July, there was
widespread disruption to bin collections across Derbyshire as workers were told to self-isolate, with Derby City Council and Erewash Borough Council among the authorities which decided to suspend brown bin collections.
