8 new virus deaths and 560 cases

THERE have been eight new coronavirus deaths and 560 cases across Derbyshire over the past 24 hours.

The latest figures from Public Health England and Department of Health and Social Care show there have now been 1,677 patients at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust to die after testing positive. This is an increase of six. There have been two more deaths at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

The largest increase in local cases over the latest 24-hour period was in Derby, where there were 134, bringing the total for the city to 28,819. Across the UK there have been another 38,154 positive tests over 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 6,862,904.

There have also been another 178 people to die within 28 days of receiving a positive coronavirus test, meaning the death toll now stands at 132,920.

Meanwhile 48,131,996 people have had their first dose of the vaccine and 43,023,372 have now been double-jabbed.
