8 new virus deaths and 560 cases

THERE have been eight new coronaviru­s deaths and 560 cases across Derbyshire over the past 24 hours.

The latest figures from Public Health England and Department of Health and Social Care show there have now been 1,677 patients at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust to die after testing positive. This is an increase of six. There have been two more deaths at the Chesterfie­ld Royal Hospital.

The largest increase in local cases over the latest 24-hour period was in Derby, where there were 134, bringing the total for the city to 28,819. Across the UK there have been another 38,154 positive tests over 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 6,862,904.

There have also been another 178 people to die within 28 days of receiving a positive coronaviru­s test, meaning the death toll now stands at 132,920.

Meanwhile 48,131,996 people have had their first dose of the vaccine and 43,023,372 have now been double-jabbed.

The total number of cases reported in Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic, indicating the totals for each area and the change in the last 24 hours: Amber Valley 12,742 (+35); Bolsover 8,843 (+45); Chesterfie­ld 9,365 (+73); Derby 28,819 (+134); Derbys Dales 5,074 (+17); Erewash 12,086 (+77); High Peak 8,789 (+74); NE Derbyshire 9,540 (+51); S Derbyshire 10,759 (+54).

The number of Covid-related hospital deaths is: Derby & Burton NHS Trust 1,677 (+6); Derbys Healthcare 2 (-); Derbys Community Health Services 38 (-); Chesterfie­ld Royal 430 (+2).
