Part of theme park shut to aid ill visitor

-

PART of Alton Towers was cordoned off after paramedics were called to the park to help a visitor who fell ill.

The area of the theme park containing rides The Smiler and Oblivion – X-Sector – was blocked off while medics treated the woman. She had to be taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.

Park bosses wished her a speedy recovery after the incident on Friday.

A spokeswoman said: “We can confirm a guest fell ill [on Friday] afternoon. The health and safety of our guests is our top priority and an area of the park was cordoned off to allow the guest some privacy, while our team assisted the guest until an ambulance arrived on site.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and we wish our guest a speedy recovery.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 3.36pm to reports of a patient who had fallen ill at Alton Towers. We sent one ambulance and a community first responder to the scene and treated a woman at the scene.”
