As we went to press, the 227 members of the ParalympicsGB squad looked set to scoop well over 100 medals and a topthree place on the medal table – besides having broken several world records.
Everyone who has bought a National Lottery ticket has contributed to that success. Since 1997, National Lottery funding has supported more than 6,000 athletes so they can train full time, and access top coaches and scientific and medical support. And this ensured that the competitors for the postponed Games in Tokyo arrived in the best possible shape.
The result? An extraordi nary sporting triumph to raise spirits across the
UK. Congratulations to all the athletes for their brilliant efforts.
