County pubs in line for national awards

FIVE Derbyshire pubs could be in line to receive national recognitio­n after being nominated for the Great British Pub Awards 2021.

Among them is The Cow at Dalbury, near Ashbourne, which has been nominated for two awards, and is in contention in both the “best pub with rooms” and the “best pub for dogs” categories.

A second venue near Ashbourne, the Cock Inn at Mugginton, is in line for the “best pub garden” title at this year’s awards.

It could be a second award win in quick succession for the Bullhurst Lane pub, which was recently crowned Derbyshire Pub of the Year after scooping the prestigiou­s county honour in the National Pub & Bar Awards.

Another contender in the “best pub for dogs” category is the Flying Childers Inn, in Stanton in Peak, near Matlock, which will be up against the The Cow at Dalbury and several other contenders from other parts of the country for the award.

The Spotted Frog, in Brampton, Chesterfie­ld, has been nominated for the Stonegate Group Pub Partners Pub of the Year.

While the Robin Hood, in Overseal, South Derbyshire, is a finalist in the category of Hawthorn Pub of the Year after being nominated by the pub company due to its work supporting the community.

A spokespers­on for the Great British Pub Awards said: “Hundreds of pubs entered the Great British Pub Awards this year, and have been put through two rigorous rounds of judging to determine the very best in the nation.”
