Can you give Rams a new home?

-

IF a giant ram is just what you need, or you’re keen to help Derbyshire preserve its heritage, please spread the word about the Derby Ram Auction.

Throughout the summer 30 magnificent giant ram sculptures have been brightening up Derby’s streets, and you could bid on one.

On September 9, the rams will be auctioned off at the Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill to raise funds for Derby Museums’ Endowment.

I will be the auctioneer and you can bid live online. Among artworks up for sale is the bold and beautiful Royal Ram which Hansons sponsored in conjunction with Wild in Art.

The sculptures are based on the mythical Derby Ram from an 18th century song. According to legend, the Derby Ram was 10 yards high and people came from far and wide to see it.

There was one last chance to see all the rams together at a RamUnion Weekend which rans from Friday to Sunday at Derby’s Museum and Art Gallery.

The Derby Ram Trail has been created thanks to a collaboration between Derby Museums, Wild in Art and presenting partner Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID).

Wild in Art produces creative events that transform places into free, family-friendly outdoor art galleries.
