Drama as bomb squad called to grenade discovery

POLICE closed a Derby road after a grenade was found at a house.

Haven Baulk Lane, in Littleover, was shut in both directions and local residents asked to stay indoors.

Police were called at around 4.30pm yesterday after the discovery of a suspected explosive device. A cordon was put up as the bomb squad arrived. Motorists were advised to find alternativ­e routes.

A spokespers­on for Derbyshire police said: “The force was called to reports that the device had been found at a house in Haven Baulk Lane at around 4.30pm.”

A spokespers­on later issued an update to say: “The suspected explosive found on Haven Baulk Lane has been found to be safe and has been recovered by HM forces. The area is now reopened to the public. Thank you all for your co-operation.”
