TUI axes East Mids flights after review
HOLIDAY operator TUI has confirmed the cancellation of flights to a Canary Islands holiday destination from East Midlands Airport.
The airline has axed flights to Fuerteventura from the airport as part of a review of its flying programme.
Holidaymakers are still being offered twice weekly flights to Lanzarote and flights three times a week to Tenerife in the Canary Islands from the busy airport.
A TUI spokesperson said: “We’re continually reviewing our flying programme and have, unfortunately, cancelled flights to Fuerteventura from East Midlands Airport.
“We are still offering our customers twice weekly flights to Lanzarote and flights three times a week to Tenerife in the Canary Islands from East Midlands Airport.”
It comes as a statement was issued by East Midlands Airport to explain why holidaymakers cannot currently book one of its Ryanair flights for 2022.
Passengers can only currently book flights from the budget airline for destinations including Ireland, Spain and the Canary Islands up until Christmas 2021.
Manchester Airport and Stansted Airport, the other airports owned by the Manchester Airport Group, have their flights with Ryanair continuing well into 2022, currently offering flights as late as next August.
TUI has regularly been updating its list of cancelled flights from the UK to popular destinations due to Covid restrictions.
The government has confirmed that its list of green, amber and red countries will be reviewed every three weeks.
TUI added on its website: “To offer continued flexibility and reassurance, we have extended our fee-free changes policy to the end of April 2022, for package holiday, flight-only and accommodationonly customers. We also have a fee-free changes policy in place for Marella Cruises and TUI River Cruises customers and for destinations on the green watchlist.”
