Great-aunt’s story was lovely surprise

-

WHAT a lovely surprise I had when I opened the Bygones supplement featuring Shapurji Saklarvala and Sally Marsh’s amazing love story

(“Indian aristocrat fell in love and through social divide to marry working class county woman”, August 23).

Sally, later renamed Sehrie, was my mother’s aunt – my great-aunt! Sehrie became a family name as my mother was named after her with my eldest sister also being named Sehrie.

Mother often told the story of how her Uncle Shapa would take her and her brother and sisters for a ride in his pony and trap around the village of Wessington where they lived, whenever they visited Derbyshire! She said what a lovely man he was!

It was lovely to see the many photographs you included in the article, some of which we hadn’t seen before. Thank you again.
