Bring along your dog for fundraising walk at park
DOG owners in Derby are being invited to bring their pets along for a charity walk around Alvaston Park this weekend.
Scarsdale Vets has teamed up with its partner organisation Move More Derby to organise a second Woofs and Walkies Charity Dog Walk on Sunday to raise money for Support Dogs.
The charity, dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for adults and children with various medical conditions, provides training and support specialist assistance dogs to achieve this.
Move More Derby is a city-wide initiative which aims to improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of city folk.
Walkers can arrive at Pride Veterinary Centre from 10am to buy refreshments ahead of the walk. Walkers and their dogs will then set off from Pride Veterinary Centre at 10.30am and walk the Alvaston Park route which leads participants back to Pride Veterinary Centre. The walk will take about an hour. After returning to Pride Veterinary Centre, walkers will receive a goody bag and a certificate.
Support Dogs is Scarsdale Vets’ annual chosen charity of 2021/22.
Katy West, Move More co-ordinator at Derby City Council, said: “It is fantastic to be developing our partnership with Scarsdale Vets whilst engaging the local community. We are combining their passion for pets with the role that both they and physical activity can play in improving people’s physical and mental wellbeing. This collaboration is a great opportunity to bring people together, enjoy a walk along the riverside path and Alvaston Park and have some fun.”
Councillor Ross McCristal, cabinet member for culture, leisure, tourism and wellbeing, said: “Move More is very much about working with our partners across the city to help people become more physically active, and this is a great example of this in action.”
