City records 200 new Covid cases

-

DERBY recorded almost 200 new Covid cases in the city over the last 24 hours – the largest increase across Derbyshire.

Latest Public Health England figures show there have now been 109,178 coronavirus cases across Derbyshire since the pandemic was officially declared last year.

But the latest data shows the city recorded 196 new cases of Covid-19 – bringing the local total to 29,123 since the start of the pandemic.

The second-largest increase was in Amber Valley, which recorded 78 new positive tests while High Peak saw another 71 confirmed cases.

In Erewash there were 67 new cases, while South Derbyshire saw 61, Chesterfield 50, and North East Derbyshire 42.

There were 37 new cases in the Bolsover, while Derbyshire Dales saw the smallest increase with 33.

The Government said a further 209 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 133,483.

Figures are often higher on Tuesdays because of a lag in reporting over the weekend.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 158,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 37,489 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.
