Family, friends and colleagues mourn the loss of ‘bubbly and kind’ hospital worker Tina in tragic accident

TRIBUTES have been paid to a “bubbly and kind” Derby hospital worker who has died.

Tina Leek, who worked as a healthcare assistant at Royal Derby Hospital, has been described as “irreplacea­ble”.

Ms Leek, who worked on Ward 303 in the Oncology department, where cancer patients are treated, died in a tragic accident last week, the hospital trust has revealed.

Since then, loved ones, friends and colleagues have paid tribute to her online, describing her as a “lovely lady” who was “wonderful to work with”.

It has also been revealed that she had chosen to support organ donation, and following her death her organs were donated to people in need.

Gavin Boyle, chief executive of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust (UHDB), said: “Tina joined the team in 2014 and was known by all as a bubbly, kind, hardworkin­g colleague and a real character that was never stressed.

“Many of the team looked up to Tina within the department and for the team she will be irreplacea­ble.

“Tina’s close colleagues say she was a brilliant friend to so many and such a hard working healthcare assistant.

“Away from work Tina loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchild­ren. Our thoughts are with Tina’s friends and family at this very difficult time.

“I would like to offer our sincere condolence­s to them on behalf of everyone at UHDB.”

His thoughts were echoed on social media, where people who knew Tina paid tribute to her.

Becky Taylor said she was a “lovely, happy, kind and caring lady”.

She said: “So lucky to have known her and worked alongside her for many years. She’ll be missed so much by both staff and patients on Ward 303. Sending love to her family.”

Yhunski Suarez said: “I worked with Tina for many years in Ward 303. She was so friendly, hard working and always cheerful. I enjoyed working with her as she always makes me laugh. So sad to hear you are gone. May you rest in peace, my friend.”

Abbie Meadows added: “Such sad news. I’ve worked with Tina quite a few times and every shift I had with her was great. She was always smiling and was so kind and bubbly. Sending love to family and friends. Rip Tina.”
