THE partner of a man who died following a crash has released a heartbreaking tribute to him.

James Hopkinson died after the BMW he was travelling in collided with a wall at Heanor Gate Industrial Estate, in Heanor, on Saturday evening.

The 29-year-old, who was from the town, was left seriously injured in the crash, which took place in Heanor Gate Road at 6.35pm.

The father-of-one sadly died at the scene, and the road was closed for hours afterwards while police investigated what happened and recovered the vehicle.

In a statement released through Derbyshire police, Mr Hopkinson’s partner said his family – including his young daughter, mother and stepfather, father and stepmother, nine brothers and sisters, and his cousins – were “devastated”.

Kirsty Guilar said: “James was the type of person who would do anything for anyone. He worked non-stop but always made time for his family. We will miss him so much.

“I just had a feeling that evening that something wasn’t right but to be honest the news is still sinking in.

“I’ve tried to explain to our little girl what has happened, but she just thinks the angels are going to bring her Daddy back when he’s better.

“He always said he wanted to provide a good life for our daughter, and he did. We are absolutely devastated.”

Written and floral tributes have been left by loved ones at the scene of the crash, describing him as “one in a million”.

Derbyshire police have said enquiries are still ongoing into the circumstances of the collision and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and may be able to assist officers with their investigation is asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary by calling 101, including reference 21000514486.

He worked non-stop but always made time for his family. We will miss him so much.
