Only pure evil wants to kill creatures

REGARDING the letter from A Harrison (“Man’s greed endangering too many species”, August 27), well over 40 years ago I watched a documentary about a very brave man who had spent most of his adult life trying to save elephants from cruel poachers.

Part of that documentary showed some footage of men in a helicopter armed with a machine gun open fire on a herd of elephants, killing the matriarch and the rest of the herd just leaving some very traumatised calves to fend for themselves. They were in a state of utter confusion. It certainly made me weep.

The man who had been trying to save those beautiful, intelligent creatures, later had a heart attack. His last words on that most harrowing documentary, were “If that is what the world wants, then let them have it”.

Only pure evil would want to wipe out the planet’s beautiful wildlife.
