Police say thanks after children help track down missing teenager

-

A GROUP of children rallied to help police find a missing teenager in a Derbyshire village.

Police were called to Hilton on Friday, September 10 after reports a young person had gone missing.

While searching at a local park, police came across a group of children who offered to help find them.

Police say that thanks to information provided by the group, they were able to track down the missing person, who was found safe and well nearby.

Now police have said thank you to the “exceptional” group of kids who helped them in their search. The group was invited to the police station on Saturday where they were signed up as “deputies” for the morning shift and kitted out in police gear. They were then given the chance to sit in the police car, and turn on the blue lights and sirens. But their best moment came when police allowed them to “arrest” their coach at Hilton Harriers Football Club, a junior team most of them play for.

A police spokesperson said it was the least they could do to show their appreciation to the boys.

They said: “These young people showed tremendous determination and character to help find the missing teenager...we are thrilled to mark their contribution to the local community of South Derbyshire. The children represent some of the finest qualities of community spirit in our area.”
