Tree saves driver who overtook on danger road

-

A MOTORIST is thanking his lucky stars after a collision with a tree saved him when he crashed on a notorious Derbyshire road.

The driver had been travelling along the A57 Snake Pass when he made the foolish decision to try to overtake a vehicle in front.

He did so on a solid white line section of the road, in a move police have described as “ambition outweighing ability”.

He careered off the road, over a wall and hit a tree in a nearby field.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Thursday.

The driver escaped injury, something police say is down to a fortunate collision with a tree at the side of the road which prevented the car rolling down the hill and causing injury or even death.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said: “A57 Snake Pass. Overtakes on a solid white line section. Ambition outweighs ability, loses control and goes off road. Hits a tree which saves him from rolling down the hill and most likely dying. No injuries. Thank you. tree.”
