Fascinating vision for the Derwent Valley

-

I HAVE to say how intrigued I was by Derek Latham’s letter in the Derby Telegraph (“Heritage port opens up world-class attraction”, September 4).

In his letter, Derek has shown some vision and initiative that is sadly lacking in other quarters. Derek has described what can, or could be achieved, if an intelligent mind is allowed to initiate possibilities and develop them.

Derek obviously knows the Derwent Valley very well and has clearly put a lot of thought into his suggested plans.

The Derwent Valley is steeped in industrial history, as well as being rich in wildlife. How much better to enjoy what the Derwent Valley has to offer by exploring it slowly by walking, bike, or boat, than zooming past in a car.

I am pleased that the Derwent Valley Trust will support the bid to make Shardlow a heritage port. Even if Derek’s visions cannot be realised, Shardlow deserves it.

How nice to read a positive, entertaining letter for a change instead of the usual gripes.
