Escape as BMW bursts into flames
THESE dramatic images show the damage after a BMW burst into flames “with no warning”.
The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway of the A50 near Chellaston on Saturday afternoon, causing long tailbacks.
Police, firefighters and ambulances were called but fortunately no one was injured in the fire. The vehicle was left burnt-out at the side of the road.
The cause of the fire has not been disclosed, with Derbyshire police’s road policing unit saying it happened suddenly. The unit released pictures of the incident and said: “A50 east, junction four to three. This BMW caught fire with no warning. Not good but luckily the occupants are safe.”
In a tweet shortly after the incident, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Kingsway Fire Station and Nottingham Road Fire Station attended a vehicle fire on the A50 eastbound. The car was well alight, crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. The road was closed by police throughout the incident.”
