Two more county virus deaths

TWO more people with Covid-19 have died in Derbyshire, while almost 400 new cases have been recorded in the latest official figures.

Public Health England figures published yesterday evening show a total of 394 new cases have been confirmed in Derby and Derbyshire in the latest 24-hour period.

There have now been a total of 112,386 coronaviru­s cases in the county since the pandemic was officially declared last year.

The new deaths – recorded within 28 days of a positive test for the virus – were in South Derbyshire and Erewash.

Of the new cases added, the largest increase outside of Derby was in South Derbyshire, which saw another 61 confirmed Covid-19 infections.

The Government said a further 61 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 134,261.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 158,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.
