Spots are something we expect to leave behind after our teenage years but what if they continue into adulthood?

“Adult acne is common, but it can be upsetting and incredibly difficult to manage,” says Dr Shree Datta, for Intimina female products (intimina.com).

Regular exercise can help deliver oxygen to the skin, keeping it healthy, she says.

And a good night’s sleep will also benefit the skin. Keeping skin clean is essential, so cleanse twice a day. And if you wear make-up you should make sure brushes are clean to avoid spreading spot-causing bacteria.

“If simple lifestyle and diet measures aren’t helping, it’s time to consult your doctor in case there is an underlying

medical condition that could be causing your symptoms,” adds Dr Datta. “If your acne is hormone-related – for example if you have polycystic ovarian syndrome.”
