City centre store closing
STAFF ARE BEING REDEPLOYED, SAYS RETAILER
THE Farmfoods branch in Derby city centre is set to close for the final time at the weekend after the landlord reportedly planned to sell the building.
Notices were placed in windows of the store in Albert Street alerting customers that the store would close its doors for the final time on Sunday.
It is offering 50 per cent off its remaining stock on Sunday, with some items already sold out.
A staff member at the shop told the Derby Telegraph that the seven workers were made aware of the closure last week due to the landlord wishing to sell the premises, which had come as a shock. A Farmfoods spokesperson said yesterday: “The decision to close the shop was a commercial one but we are very grateful to all of our customers who have been shopping with us since the shop opened and we do still value their custom.”
The firm said the employees will be relocated to the chain’s other stores, with two other branches at Park Farm, in Allestree and in Ascot Drive in Allenton.
Farmfoods, which is based at Cumbernauld in Scotland, has more than 300 stores across the UK.
