A MAN has been hospitalised after reportedly being attacked by a gang of eight men who leapt from two vehicles to assault him.

The victim was found with multiple stab wounds following the incident which took place in Ebenezer Street, Ilkeston, on Monday evening.

Police said they were called to the scene just before 7.50pm where officers found a man with stab wounds to his body and hand.

He was taken to hospital for treatment with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Police say it is believed a group of eight men drove past the victim in a white Vauxhall Corsa and a black Mercedes before getting out of the vehicles to attack him.

The cars were then seen driving off towards Awsworth, Nottinghamshire.

Derbyshire police say no one has been arrested in relation to the incident yet but enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Tom Wagg said: “We understand that reports of this nature can be unsettling but would like to reassure local residents that we are treating this as an isolated incident.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area yesterday evening and noticed anything suspicious.

“We’d particularly like to hear from anyone who saw the white Corsa and black Mercedes travelling in the area around this time.”
