Concert in park raises £490

-

A CONCERT marking the return of live pop music to a Derby park raised £490 for Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.

Lunchtime pop concerts on the terrace at Darley Park were banned in 2015 following a complaint by a local resident. After an appeal to Derby City Council, the events were restored and last Sunday’s first, Musik on the Terrace, starring a comeback gig for local seven-piece 1960s pop and soul group Godfrey’s Grit ’n’ Soul Band, was attended by more than 400 people, including Derby’s mayor, Councillor Robin Wood, his consort, Andy Flint, and Derby North MP Amanda Solloway.

The chairman of the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre charity, Darley ward councillor Alan Grimadell, who helped organise the concert, said: “It exceeded our expectations. It attracted a fantastic crowd who were simply intent on having a good time.

“Several people told me that, after 18 months of the pandemic, it was brilliant to come along to Darley Park terrace to sit and enjoy the music, and dance the afternoon away. Godfrey’s Grit and Soul Band, and saxophonist Dave Cousins were tremendous.”
