Village pub to be demolished for housing

-

AN historic pub in a Derbyshire village is now on the market amid plans to turn the site into housing.

There are already plans to demolish the Jolly Colliers, in Newhall, and build one detached home and four pairs of semidetached homes.

The Rose Valley pub, on the market for £399,950 with estate agent John German, is still open for business.

It comes following the approval of two planning applications in 2020 and earlier this year for a mixture of two and three bedroom homes all with gardens and a communal entrance driveway.

The applications were given approval by South Derbyshire District Council.

The estate agent said in a report: “Offering a fantastic and exciting opportunity to secure a development with outline planning permission for one detached dwelling together with four pairs of semi-detached properties in a popular residential location on the site of the Jolly Colliers.

“Newhall is a popular residential location, handy for the nearby centres of Burton, Swadlincote and Ashby with a wide range of amenities and facilities close by.”

According to WhatPub? it is believed to be the oldest surviving pub in Newhall. It claims parts of the building are thought to date back to the 16th century, but it may not have been a pub until the 18th.
