Fly-tipper who dumped fridge outside school ‘let neighbourhood down’

-

COUNCILLORS have slammed a flytipper who dumped a fridge outside a Derby school.

Allestree councillors could not believe their eyes and took to their Facebook page to vent their fury after seeing the fridge left on its own at the entrance of Allestree Woodlands School.

A picture taken of the fridge was posted by the councillors at 8am on Thursday. The fridge was removed later in the day by Derby City Council but not before the councillors expressed their anger towards the person responsible.

Councillors said the person had “let their neighbourhood down”.

The Facebook post said: “To the person who feels it is acceptable to dump a fridge outside Woodlands School .... you clearly think nothing of our wonderful area and have let your neighbourhood down.”

This latest incident comes after it was revealed flytipping in Derby and Derbyshire is on the increase.

Figures released in a new Derby City Council report on waste services showed that flytipping in the city had gone up by 26 per cent, with almost 1,5000 more incidents reported between April 2020 and March 2021 compared to the previous eleven-month period.
