Glimpse into the future for Derbion shoppers as new Frasers takes shape

- By BEN LYONS ben.lyons@reachplc.com

WITH a new Frasers department store coming to Derby, a look inside the UK’s first branch gives shoppers an idea of what to expect.

Last month it was announced that Derbion’s biggest unit, empty since Debenhams closed in early May, will be opening as a Frasers next year.

The store will have 127,000 square foot of retail space spanning three floors – enough for more than 40 tennis courts.

Inside, there will be a beauty hall and areas dedicated to men’s, women’s and children’s fashions from hundreds of brands, as well as a Sports Direct store operating on one of the floors.

It is part of a deal signed by Frasers Group, based in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, which will also see luxury retailer Flannels open in the former Topshop unit at the shopping centre by the end of this year.

Derby’s Frasers store is to become the first to open in the East Midlands after the UK’s first Frasers store opened in Wolverhampton in April.

With several months still to go until the Derby opening, our sister paper the Birmingham Mail’s look inside its outlet in Wolverhampton gives shoppers a taste of what to expect. The 34,000 square foot city centre shop there is based in the former multi-storey Debenhams building in the Mander Centre.

The store features homewares in an interactive Frasers House area of the store and a new modern brasserie-style restaurant on the second floor. Flannels and Sports Direct, with separate entrances, are also linked to the store.

Frasers stocks more than 120 beauty brands including Christian Dior, Clarins, NARS and MAC as well as newcomers such as Natasha Denona and Uoma. Clothing lines include high-end fashion brand names such as COACH, Mario

Valentino, DKNY and Michael Kors.

Menswear is based on the first floor with brands including CP Company, Barbour, The North Face, Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger.
