Nicola took me back down memory lane
IN my view, Nicola Rippon is one of
the Derby Telegraph’s best writers. I read her piece (“Travelling back on the autumn mists of time”, September 16) and it took me back to the 1940s as a lad at Nether Heage Primary School, known locally as Ridgeway School for obvious reasons.
During my happy years there, Miss Kirk, Mrs Fox or Mr James used to take a group of us on regular nature walks through the fields and in Thacker Wood.
I agree with her that the backend is one of the best times of the year. I use “backend”, which at one time was the common term used rather than “autumn” or the American “fall”.
Still, I digress! Well, Nicola, please keep on penning your words for our paper.
