Litter-picking kits available to keep Peak District tidy

VISITORS to the Peak District National Park are being encouraged to help keep the area clean and tidy by picking up some litter.

The initiative is part of the Peak District Proud Ambassador scheme to encourage more people to take care of the National Park.

The National Park Authority has put together litter picking kits, available from two Peak District visitor centres in Castleton and Bakewell on a free dayhire basis.

The kits include everything needed for people to do their bit, from picking guides, bags, a hi-vis jacket and a litter picker.

Rachel Mora-Bannon, volunteer coordinator, said: “The Peak District National Park is a fantastic landscape enjoyed by many, so much so that many people are keen to help in practical ways, so, we’ve been thinking of things people can do.

“Alongside welcoming people back to the Peak District after the challenges of Covid-19, we want to help everyone to understand and respect our national park.

“We know that many local people are already picking up litter and monitoring issues as they happen – and, of course, we urge people not to leave their litter behind in the first place.

“But we hope that our new initiative will encourage a fresh and positive attitude among our visitors and help to create a new and growing team of Peak District Proud Ambassadors.

“Please help us to look after this beautiful area and support those who live and work in the Peak District by keeping it tidy.”
