Providing pupils with clear pathway to world of work
THE Education Sector: Business Engagement and Employability category, sponsored by Rolls-Royce, is an award for primary and secondary schools across Derbyshire who encourage their pupils to dream big and work to achieve those dreams, no matter who they are or what challenges they face.
They actively collaborate externally with businesses in a way which gives their young students early access to the world of work, employability skills and careers support. Though talent is evenly distributed, opportunity is often not and these schools are outward facing and looking to change this through school-business collaboration. The finalists are:
EMBARK FEDERATION
Embark Federation is a family of 12 schools across Derbyshire who take a unified approach to creating ‘stand out’ places of learning at the heart of their communities. This is achieved with the implementation of four core beliefs: family, integrity, teamwork and success.
Embark Federation is committed to aligning high educational standards with the magic of childhood.
Such is the connection between each institution, each school has the capacity to support others.
The group is led by two National Leaders of Education, two National Support Schools and a National Leader of Governance across the entire trust.
ROYAL SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF DERBY
Royal School for the Deaf Derby (RSDD) is a day and residential specialist school that prides itself on the warmth and inclusivity of its environment.
Each enrolled child is aged between 3–19 years old and each has an Education and Health Care Plan for hearing impairment, with communication developed using the child’s preferred method.
Listening to each child and allowing them to express their views, in the confidence that they will be understood, is central to the success of the RSDD. By utilising audiologists and speech and language therapists who specialise in working with deaf children, expert support is regularly at hand.
LEES BROOK COMMUNITY SCHOOL
A promoter of high-performance learning culture, Lees Brook Community School (LBCS) puts students at the heart of its principles and core values. The school’s motto of ‘lead, believe, create, succeed’ steers the efforts to achieve the highest of school life standards.
Students are valued equally and are encouraged to celebrate their differences, with an inclusivity ethos designed to ensure all students achieve their full potential.
Relationships with businesses and employers range from local to global companies like Rolls Royce and Bombardier.
The defined outcome set by the LBCS is to produce well-rounded individuals who can thrive in the working world.
