Mel brought woe on himself

-

SIMON Jordan has waded in on the crisis at Derby County.

Jordan believes Derby fans have every right to be angry at owner and chairman Mel Morris and claims Morris is the “architect of his own downfall”.

“I saw the news and it surprised me, I didn’t expect Mel to put them into administration,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’ve been through this. I didn’t put (Crystal) Palace into administration (in January 2010), it was taken away from me. I fought until my last breath and put myself in a situation where I very much compromised my own personal affairs in a desperate attempt to avoid that situation.

“Mel’s made that decision, that’s a different dynamic so in part it’s difficult for me to have empathy but on the other side I know what it’s like to be an owner.

“I heard his interview with BBC Radio Derby. In some parts I had empathy but with other parts I don’t.

“Mel is the architect of his own downfall.

“I also understand that in the same way in 2010 when the banking crisis bit and wiped me out economically and I was trying to bankroll a football club on my own, how external events like Covid affect your decision-making.

“The best part of the interview for me was when he opened up and said he understood it’s a privilege to run a football task but also a bloody difficult task as an owner.

“It’s very easy to say ‘just say no, if I ran that football club I’d put my last penny in,’ but you wouldn’t. There’d be decisions in your life that change the way you think.

“The fans have every right to be disappointed and to be angry with Mel. He’s the central theme and motivation behind the way the football club has been run.”
