Drivers to face disruption as busy city route to close for work for three weeks

-

A BUSY Derby route is to close for three weeks next month for roadworks.

Derby City Council will be resurfacing the whole of Pear Tree Road, in Normanton, between its junctions with Normanton Road and Dairy House Road.

Work is due to start on Thursday, October 7, and is expected to be carried out between 8am and 6pm each weekday until Thursday, October 28.

Road closures will be in force on five separate stretches along Pear Tree Road at different stages over the course of the three-week project.

Phase one will be carried out from the roundabout where motorists can access Normanton Road to the Stanhope Street / Corden Street roundabout.

Phase two will cover the road surface area at the Stanhope Street / Corden Street roundabout, before work progresses further to reach the road’s junction with St James’ Road in phase three.

Phase four will see work move further down the road to reach its junction with Becher Street, before the final phase five sees work reach the roundabout from which motorists can access Dairy House Road, St Thomas Road and Princes Street.

A diversion route will be in place via Normanton Road, Lara Croft Way, Osmaston Road, Dairy House Road, and Pear Tree Road.

No weekend work is planned, but may be a possibility, subject to progress.

Residents will be able to access their properties, however there may be a short delay at certain stages of resurfacing work. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

In a letter sent to directlyaffected residents, explaining the timing of the work the city council said: “The work will be completed by Thomas Bow Ltd, on behalf of Derby City Council and will include replacement of the road surface and road markings.

“We are doing this work now to stop winter weather causing more damage to the current road surface. This new road surface will be in place until we can repair the drainage system beneath the road.

“Repairing the drainage system is a very complex piece of work and we hope to do this during 2022/23.

“As part of the drainage work, the block paved areas on Pear Tree Road will be removed.

“We may need to resurface the whole road again after the drainage work is complete.

“We appreciate this work is disruptive and journeys could be delayed. We want to get the work completed as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.”

The upcoming work forms part of a two-year city-wide resurfacing scheme across the city.
