Parable as relevant today as ever

-

THE Faith Files article by R Kenning of Derby Cathedral in the Derby Telegraph of September 18 is well written and gives food for thought.

The parable of the Good Samaritan in the Bible has always moved me greatly.

According to Jesus Christ a lone traveller who was attacked by thieves and left for dead on a roadside was not helped by two members of the Jewish hierarchy but by a Samaritan, considered to be inferior both in racial and religious status.

In his Faith Files contribution, R

Kenning writes about a Samaritan woman who went to a well for water at the hottest time of the day when she knew no one else would be there (St John’s Gospel, Chapter 4). She was despised by Jewish women because she was a Samaritan

R Kenning writes, “When Jesus turned up for a drink he knew she was there and promised her waters of eternal life.”

Racial prejudice still abounds in our society and it is incumbent upon all of us to eradicate it.

In God’s eyes we are all of equal worth.
