Man held after girl aged 11 is approached

AN investigat­ion has been launched by Derbyshire police after a man allegedly got out of his car and approached a child in Ripley.

Officers were called to Nottingham Road at around 3.15pm on Friday following reports that a man had parked his car, got out and approached the 11-year old girl.

Passers-by are then said to have gone to the girl to ask if she was okay. The schoolgirl then went home and is understood to not be injured.

Police have arrested a man and he has been questioned by officers. In a statement, police said: “We believe there may have been people in the area at the time who may have witnessed something but are yet to come forward. If you can help our inquiries, please contact us.”
