-

OSMASTON Road’s branch of Co-op will close at the end of October, the supermarket chain has confirmed.

The store is to be taken over by Heron Foods, which currently occupies a store across the road from their new premises.

Co-op said its store will close on Saturday, October 30, after making the decision to sell the property.

A spokesperson from the company said: “The decision to sell any store is never taken lightly and, only after careful consideration is our store in Osmaston Road, Allenton, to be sold.

“Our priority is to safeguard local jobs and, colleagues - who have been informed - have an opportunity to transfer to the new operator and, are being fully supported throughout the process. We would like to thank the community for its support of this store over the years.”

Heron Foods said all current Co-op workers at the store will be joining their workforce when they launch the new store on Thursday, December 9.

The company has said it will vacate its current premises in Osmaston Road.
