A PAIR of drug dealers threw a bag containing heroin, cocaine and cannabis out of the driver’s window during a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Derby.

Mehraan Khan, who was once part of a gang who stabbed a teenager outside his school gates, was in the passenger seat of the white Audi.

His accomplice, Ameer Hamza, was behind the wheel of the vehicle who reached 80mph during the pursuit.

Derby Crown Court heard how when officers recovered the discarded package from the roadside it contained wraps of the two class A drugs and individual deals of cannabis.

And the hearing was told both men are currently serving long sentences for a robbery which they were convicted of six months after this incident.

Recorder Balraj Bhattia QC said: “This was serious criminality and you are both serving prisoners.

“Mr Hamza, your sentence is 18 months and Mr Khan yours is two years.”

Both will run consecutive to the sentences they are currently serving meaning they will spend more time behind bars.

In 2014, when he was a juvenile, Khan, now of HMP Ranby, was part of a gang who stabbed a schoolboy outside Landau Forte College in Fox Street, Derby.

Since then, the now 23-year-old has amassed six convictions for 28 offences including an eight-year stretch, in July 2019, for the robbery.

Hamza, 28 and of no fixed address, has 13 previous convictions for 19 offences, including drug dealing and is also currently serving five years and four months for the same robbery.

Phillip Plant, prosecuting this latest case, said police tried to stop a white Audi being driven by the second defendant on January 5, 2019.

He said as they did so the driver reached 80mph through the city before it ended in a collision with a police car in Osmaston Road.

Mr Plant said: “During the pursuit a package was seen to be thrown out of the driver’s window.

“That was recovered and found to be 80 wraps of heroin, 69 wraps of crack cocaine and a smaller amount of cannabis.

“Mobile phones were also seized and analysed and on Mr Khan’s there was evidence he had been selling on the streets.”

Hamza, formerly of Provident Street, Derby, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis and assisting an offender by throwing the package out of the window.

Chris Hallas, his barrister, said: “He wants to move on with his life, he is fortified by his belief that enough is enough.”

And Khan, formerly of Renals Street, Normanton, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin, cocaine and cannabis.

Exdol Mitchell, mitigating, said: “He is the official carer for his mother and I know he is very, very, upset and also ashamed that his incarceration has caused his mother difficulties.”

The prosecutor told the hearing how charges of dangerous driving relating to the chase have already been dealt with but he did not say what the sentence was.
