Driver blames speeding on toilet crisis

-

A DERBYSHIRE driver was caught in a police speed trap and blamed their excessive speed on being desperate for the loo.

Derbyshire police’s Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) posted on their social media channels about the incident while they were out doing speed checks on the A444 and Hartshorne Road.

It was the pick of the excuses during the checks, others included blaming children for distracting the driver and asking the police “have you got nothing better to do?”

A spokesperson for Swadlincote SNT said: “These are not the reasons for speeding: ‘I was in a rush for a number two’, ‘I got distracted by the kids’.

“Have you got nothing better to do?’ Reply: There is nothing better than saving your life and someone else’s!’

“Some of the drivers’ days were made when they saw it was PC Alex Boniface checking their vehicles.

“The team will always engage and explain where it is possible. More speed checks are planned across South Derbyshire.”

Fines were given to those drivers who were caught speeding with the team adding that more speed checks are due to take place “within the coming weeks”.
