Backing for minimum wage rise to £15p/h

-

LABOUR members have voted in favour of a Unite motion calling for increasing the minimum wage to £15 an hour across the country.

It comes after Sir Keir Starmer found himself in a row with the left wing of his party, as the Labour leader stuck to plans to raise the minimum wage to at least £10-per-hour, with an amount to be decided only before the next General Election.

Labour delegates in Brighton strongly called for the motion put forward by the Unite union, which said Labour must be an antiausterity party if it wants to win the next election.

Andrew Hedges, North West Durham CLP delegate, said: “I say that they deserve £15 for being the heroes of our country and that our party must support them.”
