More disruption anticipated as the crisis rumbles on

-

MORE disruption is expected for local motorists today as the fuel crisis continues. However, several deliveries have been made overnight to filling stations.

Yesterday morning, the Texaco station at Five Lamps, in Derby, was restocked and Tibshelf services on the M1 had also been resupplied.

On Monday there were reports of garage marshals, spending limits, and long queues across the county, as garages struggled to keep up with demand.

The crisis is being caused by concerns over a shortage of specialist lorry drivers to transport fuel.

This has seen people rush to the pumps across the country, despite the fact that there is no shortage of fuel at refineries. The Government said it would be putting Army tanker drivers on standby to combat the crisis. Meanwhile, some fuel stations could be closed to everyone bar key workers, under emergency Government powers.

The Daily Telegraph says NHS staff and others could be given exclusive access to some forecourts. Last week, some petrol and diesel companies said they were rationing supplies and closing some forecourts because of problems delivering fuel. People have been queuing for hours to fill up, stations have been imposing a £30 fuel limit and there have even been fights on the forecourts over fuel.
