‘If it’s aliens looking for petrol they’re not having it.’ Mystery surrounds ‘UFO’ spotted in sky above city

A UFO was spotted in Derby on Monday night by two call-centre workers who say they saw a “Golden Snitch-style” Unidentified Flying Object over suburban rooftops.

The pair, who work at Firstsource, spotted a bright white and blue light above in Inglewood Avenue, Mickleover, while out for a walk to their nearest petrol station to check if it had fuel.

As the two of them, who work at the Pride Park call centre, made their way back to their houses, they say they saw a luminous object gently passing by above them over the rooftops, just after 10pm.

Stunned by what they were looking at, the two of them took these pictures and video, describing the object as being “out of this world” and likening it to the fictional golden and winged ball used in the game of Quidditch, in Harry Potter.

They say they the object was visible for a matter of seconds, before it glided away into the horizon and out of view.

One of the workers, who did not want to be named, said: “I couldn’t believe it. I have never seen anything like this before. I couldn’t understand how chillingly quiet it was. There was no noise or lights coming from it like a normal aeroplane or airliner would have and it certainly wasn’t some kind of shooting star, as it was just too big.

“When I first looked at it, I thought it could be the moon, but when I looked across the sky, I saw the moon on the other side and the object was a totally different colour to the moon.

“It looked like a Golden Snitch out of Harry Potter, but much bigger and it seemed to have some light coming from it. I hate saying this kind of thing, but I really think it must have been some kind of UFO, maybe even aliens.

“It was only in the sky for seconds, less than a minute, before it went off in a north-easterly direction. It was really creepy to be honest.”

The pictures seem to show a white or blue glowing object hovering against the dark blue background of the night sky.

One appears to show some kind of “lightning” emerging from the object and other images show some sort of reflection of the white light against the dark of the fading day.

The other worker, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was almost like shuttlecock shaped. The way it had a point and had bright trails coming off it.

“One of the pictures we took even looked like there was a lightning bolt coming off it. We saw the object and it appeared to pass across house rooftops.

“At first I thought it could be a helicopter, but there was no noise or any other light in the sky. It couldn’t have been that.

“Was it a UFO? Who knows? But it was certainly something unusual, something literally out of this world.

“If they are aliens, I hope they don’t think they can come here and take our petrol because they are not having it. If they do take any, I won’t be able to get to work tomorrow.”
