Ride closed after visitor ‘hit by small object’

-

ROLLER coaster ride Nemesis at Alton Towers was ‘temporarily’ closed after a visitor reported a “small object” had fallen off the ride.

The theme park said it launched a “thorough” investigation’ following the incident over the weekend.

A source said the ride had to be closed on Saturday afternoon after the visitor was “hit” by the falling object.

The theme park has said the visitor did not require any medical attention. It comes just days after another ride – TH13TEEN – was shut for safety checks after an incident involving two carriages on the ride.

An Alton Towers spokesman has said: “Nemesis was temporarily closed as a precautionary measure after a guest reported seeing a small falling object when returning to the station.

“Following extensive checks and a thorough investigation we now know that this was a small, non-structural washer that does not affect the ride’s infrastructure.”
