Driver filmed going wrong way along A52 sliproad

-

FOOTAGE has been captured of a foolish and dangerous driver who was seen driving the wrong way along a busy sliproad on to the A52 dual carriageway in Derby.

They can clearly be seen making a hazardous U-turn and travelling against the direction of traffic on the new stretch of road that links the Wyvern roundabout by the old Toys R Us building to the A52 Brian Clough Way.

In the incident on Wednesday afternoon, the driver can be seen travelling along until they hit traffic trying to get on to Brian Clough Way, which was heavily congested due to the closure of the

A38 following a fatal accident.

Then, seemingly reacting to seeing slow-moving traffic ahead and thinking that a quicker route to their destination is possible, they perform a U-turn and travel back in the direction of the old Toys R Us store.

A motorist travelling along the A52 saw the driver behaving strangely and their passenger started to film the antics as they headed in the direction of Pentagon Island.

The witness said: “Traffic was backed up to that junction and the driver moved to the left and started to reverse.”

It was this unusual manoeuvre that prompted one of the witnesses to get out their phone and start to film.

“They reversed into the left-hand lane and then they did a U-turn and trundled back to the roundabout,” the witness said.

“I’ve never seen anything like that. You could tell that people in traffic were a bit shocked. If the police had seen it the driver would’ve ended up in serious trouble. The majority of drivers are not that stupid.”
