-

THE pedestrian who died following a crash in a Derbyshire village has been named.

Derby Coroner’s Court has named the pedestrian as 50-year-old James Andrew Bane.

The opening of his inquest has been scheduled to take place on Wednesday. It is likely to be adjourned for a full hearing later in the year once all evidence has been gathered and submitted to the corner’s court.

Egginton Road, in Etwall, was closed for several hours following the accident.

Mr Bane died after a Peugeot 208 crashed into two parked cars, a Mazda and a Volkswagen Up, just after midday on Tuesday. The road was not reopened until shortly before 6pm that night.

A male motorist, who was said to be driving the Peugeot and is also aged 50, has now been released on bail by police pending further enquiries after he had been arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A 34-year-old woman pedestrian was also injured in the crash and was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries.

She was released from hospital on Tuesday night.

It comes as floral tributes have been placed at the scene where Mr Bane died.

Residents have expressed their shock at the incident and spoken of their concerns about how fast some vehicles on the road are.

A staff member from the nearby Etwall Vets, close to where the crash took place, said: “It’s really shocking. It sounds strange to say but if I was in that position, it makes you appreciate what you’ve got. But it’s such a fast road as well, especially with the schools around here. It’s sad, it really is.”
