Resolution put future of Co-op in doubt
THE article on Derby Co-op was very interesting (“How decision to start a society from city hayloft paid dividends for a dozen Derby carpenters”, Bygones, September 27).
What is little known is that on October 3, 1855, a resolution was passed to dissolve the society on December 4, 1855. Fortunately there was a change of heart.
Copies of the earliest society minutes and transcriptions are available to read in Derby Local Studies, a fascinating insight into the growth of the Co-op in Derby, a successful society that has played its part in the growth of Derby for many years.
